Pere Gomila Bassa was born on April 12, 1954, in Alaior, on the island of Menorca (Balearic Islands, Spain). The son of poet Arcadi Gomila, he grew up in a literary environment that nurtured his passion for writing.
After the end of the Franco dictatorship, he became actively involved in Minorcan cultural life. In 1977, he co-founded the group Es Mussols, a collective initiative that blended poetry, visual arts, and music. Later, he collaborated with the musical group Traginada, dedicated to revitalizing Minorcan traditional music.
He is also one of the driving forces behind the Illanvers festival, an event that brings together poets, musicians, and visual artists, keeping the island’s creative spirit alive.
His poetry is marked by refined language and sensitivity, deeply rooted in his native land. Among his most notable works are Regió afòtica (1978), Tannkas (1980, reissued in 2000), Cristalls (1984), and Els colors de l’edat (1992). He has also written haikus and short poems to accompany artistic works.
Today, Pere Gomila is regarded as one of the leading contemporary Catalan voices of Menorca, both for his literary work and for his role as a cultural promoter.
