Alexiu Comoroșan was a Romanian theologian and teacher, recognized for his contributions to the field of Orthodox dogmatic theology.
Education and career
He attended high school in Suceava and the Theological Institute in Cernăuți (1860-1864). Later, he continued his studies in theology and philosophy in Vienna (1867-1868).
Clerical and didactic activity
- Parson in Horecea, Chernivtsi and catechist at the School of Singers (1864-1867).
- Parson in Bilca, Suceava (1868-1871).
- Professor at the Orthodox High School in Suceava (1871-1873).
- Clergyman at the Clerical Seminary in Chernivtsi (1873-1874).
- Substitute professor at the Department of Dogmatics of the Theological Institute in Chernivtsi (1874-1875).
After the establishment of the University of Chernivtsi in In 1875, he became an extraordinary professor, and in 1878 he was appointed full professor at the Department of Dogmatics of the Faculty of Theology. He was dean of the faculty between 1890 and 1881.
Main works
- "Academic Lectures on Orthodox Dogmatics" (2 volumes, Cernăuți, 1887-1889) – published posthumously by Professor Emilian Voiutschi.
- "Romano-Occidental Doctrine on Satisfaction" – study published in the magazine "Candela" (1889-1890).
His contributions had a significant impact on university theological education, and his textbooks were used for a long time in this field.
- He was born in Comăneşti (currently in Suceava County) in 1842.
- In 1875 he became an extraordinary professor of the Department of Dogmatics at the Faculty of Theology, Chernivtsi.
- In 1878 he became a full professor of the Department of Dogmatics at the Faculty of Theology, Chernivtsi.
- In 1880 he became dean of the Faculty of Theology, Chernivtsi.
- He died (Chernivtsi) in 1881.
